Brusly P.D. pioneer dies at 82

Brusly’s first elected Chief of Police, Louis Joseph “L.J.” Berthelot, 82, died in his sleep Sunday, November 9.

A pioneer for the town’s police department as it is today, Berthelot served eight consecutive terms as the police chief, retiring in 2000 after 32 years of service.


Kitts takes stand in murder for hire trial

On Thursday, November 6, Monique O. Kitts took to the witness stand in the trial where she has been accused of hiring a man to kill her husband in 2010.

Before Kitts took the stand, the trial, which began October 27, heard testimony from several key witnesses that pointed the finger at Kitts and triggerman Karl Michael Howard.


WBR Museum Director, Julie Rose, elected Chairman of AASLH

PORT ALLEN - The director of the West Baton Rouge Museum, Dr. Julie Rose, has been elected to chair the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). Dr. Rose was inducted on September 20, 2014 at the AASLH annual meeting, which was held at the Crown Plaza in St. Paul, Minnesota. She will serve as chairman for the association through September 2016.
