The kids in West Baton Rouge Parish are back at school, but the work doesn’t end for the parish’s parks and recreation department.
The start of school coincides with registration for a slew of fall sports, which include soccer, flag football and full-contact football.
Registration for the three sports will be wrapping up soon. Flag football is for kids ages 4-12, soccer is ages 4-14 and contact football is for 5-12-year olds.
Along with the preparation for fall sports, parks and recreation is also gearing up to begin several projects across the area, according to West Baton Rouge Parks and Recreation Director Anatole Vincent.
“We’ll soon be getting underway with baseball backstop renovations at Alexander Park,” Vincent said. “Just freshen up the back stop and other areas.”
He also mentioned projects at Rev. Manuel Park and Rivault Park, as well as a facility upgrade to the multipurpose arena.
“We’ll have a stall barn in the arena,” Vincent said. “It’ll be an 80×100 cover stall that will be used for a warm up area.”
While looking at what’s to come, Vincent also took time to reflect on a successful summer for his department.
“We had great numbers at the summer camps,” he said. “We had over 300 campers. “It was really a great summer for us. We had free live shows and our partnership with the library has been awesome.”
