Travis Edwards, 35, of Port Allen, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Bueche Road, just north of Section Road, in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, April 21, according to the Louisiana State Police.
An investigation by the troopers revealed that Edwards was travelling northbound on Bueche Road when he crossed into the southbound lane (for reasons unknown) and overcorrected and ran off the right side of the roadway.
Edwards, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle after his vehicle struck an embankment and overturned, the police reported.
He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Edwards for analysis.
The Louisiana State Police stressed the importance of wearing a seatbelt, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained, the police said.
