Brusly Panthers track star Ta’La Spates was rewarded for her hard work and commitment.Spates was named to the 2018 LSWA All-State Track and Field team for her performance in her “signature” race, the 100m run.
“It is such a privilege and an honor to be a part of the All-State team, and I thank God for the opportunity,” Spates said. “I was excited to see my name on the list because it made me feel as if I had accomplished something not only for myself but for my team and school.”
Spates, in her 2018 junior season, accomplished her season-best time of 12.03 in the 100m run.
The leader of her Lady Panthers team, Spates also successfully competed in the 200m and 400m runs and led the 4X200m relay team. She was named Outstanding Track Performer at the 2018 District 6-3A Championship.
“The All-State honor is well deserved,” Lady Panthers head track coach Trent Ellis said. “She didn’t quite run her time goal this year in her signature race, but it was still a decent time to make the All-State team. She works hard and leads by example and is looking forward to a great senior season.”
Spates said that although the state meet could have gone better for her this year, she is still grateful to have even made it to state in all of her events and is thankful for the All-State honor.
