You would think that Jesus’s hometown would be a great place for him to visit.
The people there knew him as a child, after all.
But that was part of the issue.
They knew him as the son of Mary and Joseph. They saw him grow up and play with the other children.
To see him as the messiah was unreasonable to them. Keep in mind that Jesus had turned water into wine at the marriage feast, healed the sick and raised the dead and cast out devils and so many more miracles.
But there was a problem in Nazareth. Unbelief. And Jesus marveled because of this unbelief. But couldn’t Jesus do miracles as he had done in other places? No.
Unbelief kills faith. The sick aren’t healed, the dead aren’t raised, demons aren’t cast out and souls aren’t saved from hell when unbelief abides.
In Hebrews 11:, we read that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Unbelief will destroy the dreams and hopes of anything hoped for, and the assurance that you’ll never ever see it come to pass.
Jesus was just as much the son of God in Nazareth as in any other place. But unbelief tied his ability to work there.
Many people today operate the same way. All they see is the person and not God’s vessel.
If God can use a donkey to warn Ballim then he can use us too.
The problem comes when we refuse to see the lord working in and through people.
If you and I refuse to acknowledge that God can use someone, then we’ll miss what God has for us. The blind, the possessed, the lost and those needing a touch from the lord will die without it if they choose unbelief over faith.
Unbelief will rob you of the blessings of God over and over again. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).
Forget who the servant of God is and trust the lord instead. Don’t limit God by what or who you see.
Jesus moves in the spirit and we must seek him by the spirit, not our natural intellect or understanding.
If the lord says “I am the Lord that heals you,” believe it. If the lord says “I can set you free,” believe it. If the Lord says “I can save you from sin and hell,” believe it.
Jesus came to help those who cannot help themselves.
Stay away from the mindset of Nazareth. Stay away from unbelief. It will make your life and eternity miserable.
Instead believe that God, through the person of Jesus Christ, wants to help you obtain all of his blessings. If you’ll only believe, it multiplies.
