Six Union Pacific train cars carrying wood pellets derailed on Wednesday morning in Port Allen.
Two train cars appeared slightly off kilter on the railroad tracks adjacent to Leblanc Road, which is out of the way of heavy traffic flow. The incident took place near the Port of Baton Rouge.
The train cars were carrying wood pellets to Drax Biomass. There was no major spillage, no hazardous materials involved and no injuries, according to Union Pacific spokesman Jeff DeGraff.
The trains blocked Avenue G in Port Allen for about an hour after the incident took place at 10:15 a.m. Port officials and local police were able to clear the train to allow for traffic shortly after.
The derailed trains were still visible from La. Hwy. 1 on Thursday afternoon. A small crane will be used to right the train.
