It’s now come to waiting time for the Port Allen Lady Pelicans.
On the heels of a 26-4 rout over White Castle on Monday and a District 7-2A showdown after press time Tuesday against Episcopal marked the final games of the regular season play for the Lady Pelicans.
A win on Tuesday would give the Lady Pels a 16-11 record, and mark twice in three years that head coach Alisha Fairchild has matched the 16-win record former coach Josh Laborde compiled in 2011.
Playoffs will mark the big question for the Lady Pelicans, who will go into the post-season with a Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rating hovering around No. 21. A win against Episcopal or a loss from another team could boost the Lady Pelicans in the rankings.
PAHS would either travel to No. 12-ranked Springfield or head north to face 13th seeded Pickering in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
How far the Lady Pelicans go into the playoffs would depend largely on their mindset going into the game, Fairchild said.
“It’s all about the metal preparation,” she said. “Either they’re completely on or completely off.
“If they all have the same positive mindset going into the game, they fire on all cylinders,” Fairchild said. “Otherwise, it’s not pretty.”
The Lady Pelicans will know their post-season destination when the LHSAA announces the playoff pairings Sunday.
