The Dow Westside YMCA is partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association to provide free memory screenings in honor of National Alzheimer’s Month this November. Memory screenings will be offered at the Dow Westside YMCA, 3688 Sugar Plantation Pkwy. on November 8 from 9 A.M. until 12 P.M.
Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. A memory screening is just like any other routine health check-up. It’s a simple, non-invasive test designed to gauge memory, thinking and language skills. Although a screening result is not a diagnosis, scoring below the normal threshold can signal whether an individual should seek a thorough evaluation from his or her physician.
At the Y, we are committed to helping you live a long and healthy life, and these screenings provide a valuable opportunity to learn more about healthy lifestyle choices for successful aging. The memory screenings are free and open to the community. For additional information, please contact the Dow Westside YMCA at 225-687-1123.
