William Thomas “Bill” Heflin, 74, succumbed to cancer on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Carpenter House Hospice in Baton Rouge. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University. A longtime resident of Port Allen, he is survived by his children from his first wife, Bonnie Walker Holliday; son, William Thomas “Tommy” Heflin of Galliano, LA; daughter, Colonel (USAF) Kristin Heflin McCoy and husband Jason McCoy of Columbus, OH; and daughter, Kendall Heflin Holderith and husband Tom Holderith of Baton Rouge; sister, Lynne Duvernay; brother, Don David; and six grandchildren, Ryan Heflin Schexnayder and Dillon Heflin, Molly and Connor McCoy, and Brennan and Beau Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Ourso Heflin; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lee Heflin and Mrs. Marilyn Shipp; and brother, George David. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away, and although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.
