For opinion submissions:
The West Side Journal welcomes residents of West Baton Rouge Parish or the surrounding area to submit their thoughts and opinions on any topic for the weekly print publication and website. Opinions, or op-eds, typically run 400 - 1,200 words and pieces with lengths that exceed the bounds of reason must be revised.
We ask each writer to include a one-sentence introduction of themselves either at the top or bottom of the submission along with a phone number for confirmation purposes only. Writers must include annotations for all assertions and attributions made. Public comments written on our website may also be published in print as letters to the editor. Materials will be published at the discretion of our publisher. All submissions must be original, typed and emailed to Editor@thewestsidejournal.com by Noon Monday for consideration of publication in that week’s newspaper. As a matter of security, embedded in the text of an email, not as an attachment.
What is an Op-Ed?
An op-ed may be many things - Commentary on local news and events, reflections, explanatory essays, open letters and much more. We’re happy to run just about anything well-written with a fact-based viewpoint we believe the residents of West Baton Rouge will find worthy of their reading.
Personal or explanatory essays, commentary on news events, reflections on cultural trends and more are all welcome. We’re interested in anything well-written with a fact-based viewpoint we believe readers will find worthwhile.
