The East Feliciana Tigers got up early and didn’t look back on the way to a 30-9 win over the Port Allen Pelicans Friday for senior night at Guy Otwell Stadium.
Port Allen honored its four senior football players: Michael Johnson, Trevonte Shepherd, Treveon Scott and Cedric Smith.
East Feliciana (3-5, 3-1) led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter and 16-0 at the half. The Tigers tacked on two more touchdowns to take a commanding 30-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Pelicans where they outscored the Tigers 9-0.
Even with the loss, the Pelicans are still very much in contention for a playoff berth. According to the unofficial power ratings on the Louisiana High School Athletics Association website (LHSAA), the Pelicans sit at No. 34 as of Oct. 22.
That position is just two spots out of the playoffs where Delcambre was listed with a 2-6 mark.
Port Allen’s strength of schedule is what has the Pelicans in the mix for a playoff berth as it is higher than most of the teams in that 30-35 range in the ratings.
Port Allen turns its attention to this week’s road game against district opponent Capitol (5-3, 2-3)
